When we ran a gym-wide survey a few weeks ago polling our members’ likelihood of returning to the gym, we found out that 42.7% of our members were reluctant to return on the very first day we would re-open.
(That happened to be yesterday, by the way.)
Although we were surprised by how high the number was, we also totally understood. Ever since COVID-19 hit the US, people’s lives have flipped upside down.
People stopped working in a physical location and only worked from home.
Kids were now home when they weren’t supposed to be.
People were now worried about keeping our at-risk family members alive… something they didn’t worry about before all this happened.
Needless to say, coronavirus changed everything.
So here at CrossFit Lobo, we got to work.
We put our heads together to come up with solutions that were going to best serve our members in this new reality – today and in the future.
Here’s what we came up with.
New Membership Options
The three main membership types we now offer at CrossFit Lobo are:
- Hybrid (a mix of in-person and online)
There are a lot of detailed benefits and services you get with any option, which we can review together in a 1-on-1 consultation. The point is, when we looked at various needs and concerns people had regarding working out and sustaining a routine, these were the options that stood out to us.
Whether you choose an online, in-person, or hybrid membership, you get the benefits of two things: coaching and workouts created for you.
Our in-person membership at its most basic level includes unlimited group classes, Beyond the Whiteboard access to electronically track your progress, and access to a private members’ Facebook group.
We have two higher-tiered memberships that offer many more benefits and services, to include:
- Programs to help you meet your goals quicker
- Extended gym hours
- Goal-setting sessions / check-ins
- Enhanced 1-on-1 accountability
- Mindset coaching
- And more
Our online memberships offer you programming (or in other words, workouts) and accountability from a coach. All published workouts and communication with your coach are done through TrueCoach, an app dedicated to online members only.
We offer two different online memberships. What varies between the two is the number of days you workout, how personalized to your goals you want your workouts to be, and how much coaching and accountability you’re seeking from your coach.
Our Hybrid membership is simple: you get a combination of in-person and at-home workouts. With our most common plan, you get 8 classes at the gym a month (2 classes/week) and 3 workouts a week you can do at home.
Which One Is Best For Me?
In our consultation, we determine your goals and run you through a workout to best assess what plan is going to be best for you. That being said, if one of the descriptions below sound like you, then you may already know what type of membership will work for you best.
The normal in-person membership is for the person who no longer wants to work out from home, has no issues returning to the gym, and will return to the gym in full.
The online membership is for the person who cannot or will not return to the gym, either temporarily or permanently. This could be for logistical reasons (schedule changes, length of commute), concerns around coronavirus and wanting to play it safe, or even preferring the online membership versus an in-person one.
People who PREFER our online membership (versus needing to have it due to circumstances) tend to be self-starters, have no issues with working out from home, prefer the flexibility, and enjoy the enhanced accountability available throughout the day (versus for one hour in a class format).
Our hybrid membership is for the person who wants the best of both worlds. They miss the class setting of the gym, but for one reason or another, they also need (or want) to work out from home a few days a week.
But It’s Not That…
Now, maybe you don’t feel like any of these options apply to you because deep down, you really want to get back to the gym. You miss it more than ever!
You’re just worried it’s going to be… different.
And you’d be right in thinking that.
Any gym that’s open right now is operating much differently than they did in March. Social distancing is a thing now, whereas a couple months ago, we were shamelessly high-fiving each other without a care in the world.
Not to mention the heightened attention paid to cleaning, disinfecting, and overall sanitizing every object in the gym.
But is different a bad thing? Not necessarily.
HEB is different. But you can still buy groceries.
Restaurants are different. But you can still get your favorite tacos.
If you’re not agonizing over the changes other businesses have made, the changes we’ve made won’t bother you either.
We enforce social distancing, and we ensure all equipment and high-touch areas are sanitized between use. We do that through the changes we’ve made to our space and class format.
But in every class, you will continue to get a great workout, attentive coaching, and a group of awesome people in class suffering alongside you.
So if you’re still on fence wondering, “What should I do?” take the time to evaluate what it is you care about and miss the most from your gym experience from a few months ago.
If it was a crowded, bustling gym or a place where you could walk freely and bump into people… then coming back to the gym is probably not a good idea.
But if you miss:
Not having to create workouts for yourself…
Having a coach tell you exactly what to do…
Feeling the rush that comes from completing a tough workout alongside your friends…
Then you’ll need to find your way back to us. Soon.
