3 C’s for Success! – Coach Elizabeth

goal-setting1

I believe most days can be conquered with three things!

Coffee!   Start your day with a nice cup of Joe, or coffee! I’m not talking about that Venti Caramel Latte from Starbucks either, that is like an overloaded meal that might stop your progress you if you are trying to lose weight. I mean a nice black cup of coffee. It smells great while brewing and although some people don’t enjoy the bitterness of it, it honestly grows on you. There is a ton of new research being published about the benefits of coffee from increased performance in the gym to helping fight heart disease. I even reach for a nice cup of coffee after lunch. It helps get me going again and gives me the little boost needed to finish my work day.  CrossFit Lobo even has a coffee maker!  Help yourself.

Commitment!   You may be asking “How is commitment going to help my day?” What are the goals you have set for yourself? Do you have them written down somewhere so that you have a constant reminder or are they just floating around in your brain with the million other thoughts? Take a few minutes each morning to commit to goals, and how you are going to move towards accomplishing them that day. If you are trying to lose weight and know you have a company lunch meeting, commit that you are not going to order the bacon cheeseburger with onion rings but that you will either 1)pack your food and take the two minutes to explain why you brought your food…not that it’s their business, but people are nosey! Or, 2) going for a cleaner option. Try the hamburger patty with no cheese and lots of veggies and fruit on the side. Commit to your goals daily before they pass you for another five years because YOU HAD TO HAVE THAT PIECE OF CAKE. If you aren’t committed then quit whining when you aren’t achieving your goals. Positive attitude, and self ownership of your actions will help get you there.

Control!  This ties in with commitment and coffee actually. You have to have self control and will power. Yes, I love a triple grande skinny vanilla latte from time to time but is it getting to my fitness goals? Not really! I want to be debt free in the next three years, so I have to have the control to say no sometimes. Yes, I WANT to go to that fancy dinner or buy those beautiful shoes, but do I NEED THEM? Nope, not at all. When you are trying to reach a goal, you have to control yourself everyday or discipline yourself. No one is going to stand over your shoulder and tell you not to blow your money on this or that, or don’t eat that brownie. You have to want it bad enough. Whatever IT is for you! You also control how you feel! Yes, someone can frustrate you beyond belief or royally piss you off, but you allow it. Don’t let anyone else control you or how you feel! If you want the damn shoes, buy them, but first ask yourself how is that helping you reach your goal? Sit down in the morning with your cup of coffee and commit to your goals and control yourself!
